Is Southwestern University ( the one in Texas) a good college?

Is that a prestigious university ? is it hard to get into?

this thread has a great discussion on Southwestern as well as other comparable lac’s. just search for southwestern within the thread.

@fayleighcc You can google common data set to see what the admittance stats were in the past. So yes, it is hard to get into if you aren’t within that 50% range. All you can do is apply and try. In the meantime put together your best grades, stats, essays, etc. that you can. Make sure your application is error free and spend time on your essay. Also, schools like Southwestern value interest highly so visiting, applying early, etc. all help your chances. It is a really beautiful campus and yes it is a great school. Great size too! Good luck!!

Just a tidbit that you may not be aware of… Southwestern U spun off SMU!

Thank you so much for the information. I have already applied !

Agree with newjersey17. Southwestern University is hard to get into. My son got accepted in February 2015. His ACT scores weren’t that great however, he heavily advocated for himself. He was recruited to play football but we know that D3 sports programs definitely don’t have the input(if at all) that D1 or D2 schools have so academics first, sports second. He took every opportunity to advocate for himself. He felt out of all the unofficial and officials visits we took that Southwestern was the place for him. It’s a beautiful campus, small classrooms and what he liked about it most was that you will not be a ‘number’ there. They seem to really care about their students and it sounded like there was lots of help available. He will be attending school this fall and is so excited. Best of Luck!

Southwestern was chartered in 1840 while SMU was founded in 1911.
