is sports REALLY neccessary?

i'm looking forward in applying to colleges like NYU, Cornell, Penn State, Upenn..etc.. [other lower ivies] i have a good gpa and sat score for those colleges but my ECs don't stand out that much..
all i've done so far
is....

key club
redcross club
environmental intership @ an environmental center
currently doing a medical biology intership at a hospital
volunteered at library
publication in school poetry magazine
NYCSEF participant [a renowned scifair..in association with ISEF]
volunteered at a youth camp for a week

this is all i've really done..but i've done things that satisfy me the most...i haven't joined any sports teams whatsoever, even though i tried...its really competitive to join the tennis team in my school so ..i was unlucky with that
do u think its necessary for me to have more ECs?

No. There's no magic bullet for getting into selective schools. Instead of thinking of it in terms of quantity ("I need to join this many clubs to get into this school"), think in terms of quality. How can you get more involved in the clubs that you do participate in? How can you truly let your passions shine through by the ones that you are involved with? It is far better to be seen as maximally involved in a few clubs than minimally involved in a whole lot.
