I'm currently approaching the end of my junior year, and saying that it has been stressful is an understatement! Obviously, I've been working on my college list, and as I have been adding and removing colleges, some questions have come to mind. I haven't talked to my college counselor about this yet, but I will soon. Basically, I am from California and yes, I am guilty of having a dream school for as long as I can remember. The only problem is that this dream school I talk about happens to be just slightly hard to get into...Stanford University. If you look at my chance thread (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1616663-please-chance-me-i-ll-chance-back-p1.html), I think we all know that I am not one of those 2400 SAT, 4.0 UW GPA kids. Thus, should I even bother applying to Stanford and instead just focus on perfecting my other applications when that time comes next year? Please be honest, I really don't mind.

If it's relevant, I am interested in math and computer science. Since my last chance thread, I won my county's science fair and will most likely be attending the California state fair. My project was in computer science and math. I think my profile reflects my passion for math and CS, but my "numbers" aren't good enough for Stanford.

Sorry for making this so long.
Thanks in advance!
If you want me to chance you, please link me to your thread in your comment :)

Stanford is not a “waste of your time”. While the admissions process might be a crapshoot you can never be completely sure about your fate until the school has given you their admission decision. Either way Stanford is a common app school, so the only unique part of their application is the supplement. This consists of a couple of short (250 word) essays and some short answer questions.

95% of people will get rejected by Stanford in 2015 but if you don’t apply, you have made yourself part of 0% who stand a chance of admission by not applying.

Definitely not a waste of time. Although you feel as if you can’t get in, you’ll never know until you attempt it. If you don’t, you’ll live with the regret for the rest of your life. You really should apply.

@2015er. saif235 is correct. Stanford can easily fill their class several times over with perfect 4.0s and 2400s…but they don’t. They are NOT looking for perfectionists because perfectionists tend not to want to take chances and are too complacent…they are looking for individuals who are future change agents with passion…who are willing to challenge themselves and challenge others. If you look at the Stanford thread for accepted students profiles…you will notice many have scores similar to yours. It will be the intangibles like ECs, essays, and recommendations that will determine yea or nay. Good luck.
