Is Stanford still an Ivy League school?

I don't see it on the forum...

Stanford was never an ivy league school…

oh i thought it was…

I’m trying VERY hard not to make a tasteless Asian joke at the moment but I’m having some trouble.

Stanford is a Pac-12 school. So is Arizona State.

And, just in case you don’t know…MIT isn’t an ivy league school, either.

Ivy League consists of:
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Cornell
Dartmouth
Penn
Brown
Columbia

It is nothing more than an athletic conference.

Bring on the jokes/stereotypes/ etc…this guy deserves it.

No jokes…it’s good thing if one more person realizes that there is plenty of quality outside of the magic label.

Well, it is a bit more than just an athletic conference, as these eight schools collaborate on more than just athletics. For example, there is the Council of Ivy Group Presidents, as well as the student-run [Ivy Council](Ivy Council - Wikipedia).

These eight schools have much more in common–and relate to each other in more ways–than the schools that make up the typical collegiate athletic conference.

The Big Ten also has schools that relate to other in more ways than just athletics.

[Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC)](http://www.cic.net/Home.aspx)

Gotta hand it to the ivy league for their effective brand washing

Fwiw the academic big boys of the predominant athletic conferences are:

Stanford and Berkeley in the PAC 12
Duke and UVA in the Atlantic coast conference
Vanderbilt in the south east conference
Georgetown and Notre Dame in the big east conference
Michigan and Northwestern in the big 12
Harvard Yale and Princeton in the ivy league
Rice in conference usa

Interestingly, the Cornell club in new York is open to many of the non-ivy schools on this list including Stanford, Duke, Notre Dame and Georgetown.

Often times the schools are more important than the conference, and every conference has its own pecking order.

Except that all of the members of the Ivy League are comparable in academic prestige to the “academic big boys” of the other conferences, which kinda makes it unique.

wooow… i didn’t expect this much comments on this o___0

spit out the asian joke? HAHA i wana hear i’m curious~

Anyways i’m a girl by the way. Which do you guys consider the best ivy league school?

i can guess… Harvard?

FYI the main difference between the ivy league conference and all the other athletic conferences is the lack of athletic scholarships. All other conference have them, in the ivy league they are not allowed.

^ officially at least. But Ivies (at least, those with the resources) aren’t afraid to be a bit more generous in their financial aid for high-prized athletes. They can’t create designated athletic scholarships, though.

“Michigan and Northwestern in the big 12”

Ugh. That would be the B1G.

As we learned in that prior thread from the high-income dad with the #1 ranked son in some sport that got lots of money from an ivy (UPenn???).

Since the ivies are free to give huge need based aid to its athletes, it seems that the conference isn’t actually looking at the CSS/FAFSA apps to see if some well-heeled athletes are being determined to have “need”.

and UCLA gets snubbed again :'(
