Assuming that I get into Stern, is it worth it compared to..let's say Rutgers New Brunswick for Business? How much better is it? Does it just get me a head start in the job hunt or will it have benefits for me in the future too?

I can’t tell you if it’s worth it, because I have no idea what your financial situation is and how willing you are to go into debt, but Stern is top notch. It is on par or better than any business school in the country with the possible exception of Wharton, you will get a top notch education and untold resources to further your career. If you were comparing Stern to a top state school like UVA or Michigan I’d be inclined to say go to the state school to save money, but Rutgers isn’t near Stern’s class. Again this is your decision, you can succeed wherever you go, but Stern is one of the best business schools in the country, if you get in it’s just hard to say no.

If you’re into investment banking…it’s basically impossible to get into that field from Rutgers New Brunswick since these companies mainly recruit with on campus recruiting and they don’t recruit on campus at Rutgers. NYU Stern is one of the schools where on campus recruiting for these banks occurs so for this field…Rutgers NB<<<<<<<<<<NYU Stern since it’s “impossible” to break in from Rutgers but possible from stern.

Of course…there are stories of people breaking in from Rutgers…but there’s this funny story (dno if it’s true…just heard about it):
Rutgers valedictorian answered the infamous “What is your biggest weakness?” question at an interview for an investment banking gig with “I went to Rutgers.”

Stern is awesome. Rutgers doesnt have the reputation, whatsoever. If you have the resources to attend both, and are accepted to both, do Stern. A million times over do Stern. Also, if you have the resources and were gonna go against a top state school likeUVA, UMich, or Berkeley, do Stern, for finance anyways. You’ll notice all the 3 schools I just listed have undergrad programs, and some of them outrank stern and are arguably better, but for finance, we are simply unmatched (except for Wharton lol)

I’d say in terms of undergraduate business programs there’s Wharton and MIT, then followed up by Stern, Berkeley Haas and Cornell AEM.

Berkeley Haas is nothing to look down upon, and is definitely an exact equal to Stern in terms of prestige and employment prospects, except located in the west coast. However if you don’t make Haas and u major in econ then you’re good for nothing (unless you do Berkeley engineering which is still awesome).

Cornell AEM is still an ivy so we can’t ignore that, but the level of Stern definitely reaches up to it, if not, succeeds it.

All other undergraduate business schools are below this for sure, at least in terms of the financial industries.
