Well the EA deadline is approaching, and I'm done but I don't want to submit yet cause I know when I do I'm gonna want to change something. So, do admissions officers care, and I don't actually mean last minute more like last day. Or should I submit now?

Someone will probably tell you that it doesn’t matter, but I like to think that it does. You are at the bottom of the pile, and by the time they get to you they’ve already formed opinions. Thus, I would submit it as soon as you are reasonably sure of its accuracy and efficacy. Of course, I could be entirely wrong.

The order of the “pile” isn’t determined by when you submit the online app, it’s when all the mail is sorted.

my college counselor told us all to submit ahead of time, because server crashes can screw us over.

“This person has good stats. Oh wow, this person has done some really awesome things! And their teachers think they’re amazing. I think we should accept---- oh, wait, no. He submitted his application on October 31st. Tsk tsk.”

In case something last-minute happens that you have to take care of, I’d suggest getting things in earlier. But seriously, Admissions has so much sorting to do and interesting things to look at on an app that they won’t care about your timestamp all that much.

Submitted app the night before the due date and got in EA

I don’t think it is the case, except for schools with rolling admission

The admissions officers don’t care.

This is true, but in the past if there have been server crashes around the time of the deadline, MIT has extended the deadline by a few days. They’re not looking to disqualify anyone because of their own server issues.

Regardless of when your application is submitted or when the file is completed and sent to readers, your application will be read by several people at different times. So some readers will read your application early and some will read it late.

No decisions are made at MIT until all applications have been read and discussed. There’s no advantage to submitting early.

^I knew you would say that, but my one data point says otherwise :D

What mollie and piper said.
