I'm a transfer student and I've put my deposit down on New Paltz. I'm very indecisive so now I'm thinking I should've chose a different school. It's known to be an artsy school so I'm scared I made a mistake choosing it since I'm a Biology major. I think I want to do Environmental Science but I'm not positive. I also got accepted to Stony Brook and Binghamton but I was too intimidated by Stony Brook and Bing seemed a bit far (it would be 3 hours away and New Paltz is only an hour and a half). Now I'm thinking I should've gone to Binghamton because of their program options and they are stronger in Bio.
I thought New Paltz was a really good school and that they Bio department was improving but now I'm freaking out that I won't be able to get a job after college because I was a Bio major at New Paltz.

I understand your anxiety. You will be just fine at New Paltz. New Paltz biology program is definitely improving. I think New Paltz’s reputation is moving up rapidly. New Paltz has an “artsy” feel, but it is a very diverse school. It is in a small town and a medium sized school, so you will not be overwhelmed by so many students, professors, etc. The biology program is also rather challenging. You will know what you need to know to go on to the next phase of your academic career. One thing I can say from going to New Paltz is that it made me a well rounded student. I can compete with people who have higher grades because I have either more knowledge or more work experience than they do. Regardless of what school you go into, your grades will always speak for you. Whether you are in New Paltz, Bing or Stony, your grades will determine what grad school you go to. However, for a job, your gpa probably will not matter too much depending on the place. My theory is stay above a 3.0 and you will be able to do all that you want to do.
