Is Syracuse Practical?

I am looking to get into Syracuse University next year. I am going to apply to the VPA Film program and hopefully transfer to Newhouse my sophomore year (I know, I know. EVERYONE does this.)

My stats are as follows:

Race: Caucasian

Residency: MN

GPA: UW- 3.40 (school doesn't do weighted)

our Competitive One Act.

-Young Democrats (1 year)

-Various Volunteer Hours (~100 hours so far)

So, can I get into Syracuse?

What’s rather mind-boggling to me is why people don’t just apply directly to Newhouse. Worst case scenario, you just end up being placed into your second choice program. Saves you some trouble.

Looks solid though.

I think you have a good shot at at gaining admissions although I am unsure if Syracuse will be financially practical.

what awesomeguy said. i applied for newhouse first choice, VPA second and got into VPA. i don’t think i’ll be transferring though once i learned more about the program, i’m happy to be in VPA. i got in with similar academic stats to you but i also think my recommendations and especially my portfolio were a huge help.

I think I will apply to Newhouse as my first choice and VPA as my second and we will see what happens! Thanks for the help guys! I look forward to applying to Syracuse!

Any other thoughts???

You may want to consider an interview if you are going to be on campus again before you apply.

You should be admitted based on your posted information.

Did you interview? They’re big on you showing interest in their programs.

I have not interviewed. I like in Minnesota, so it would mean me flying out to NY if I wanted to get an interview.

Actually interviewing is not a big deal for them, because they know some people don’t interview well. If you can represent yourself well on an application, you’ll accomplish the same as an interview.

newhouse blows.

VPA is awesome.

if you get into VPA, transferring to newhouse is easy. take the easiest classes you can during freshman year and drop any classes that aren’t going well after the first month or so. newhouse bases intrauniversity transfers purely on GPA. get a 3.7.

SU is extremely generous in financial aid, which makes it very practical for those of us who aren’t rich. international students get screwed, and they (together with rich NYC kids) pay for everyone else. internationals all pay $58,000/yr since there’s no financial aid for them. basically, their daddies pay for your education. come here.
