ITS THEATRE ACTING MAJOR BTW

I don’t think it’s too much. I know several people who are taking/have taken 18 hours, and they didn’t have any problems managing the load. You should be fine as long as you know how to manage your time.

Normally, it’s usually manageable, but first semester? I wouldn’t take that if I were you. Students normally want a medium/light load their first semester to ensure that they can get used to the place, their new lifestyle and the social scene at the college before going hardcore with academics.

But then again, it’s theater acting. I’m not sure if they assign tons of assignments or what, so you could possibly pull it off.
Usually, you can tell within the 3rd or 4th week if the workload is going to be too much, so drop classes as necessary.

It’s normal, but it can be intense for your first semester. I took 16, which was a really good start, so I am confident I can take on 18 credits next semester. If you have good time-management skills, you can do just fine. If you slack, I’d give it a second thought or just start a few credits below, like 15 or 16.

For a first semester freshman, I’d advise not to take 18 credits because you will be adjusting to a new environment at college, academically and socially-emotionally. Drop one of them and take 15 credits :)

As a theater major, you need a lighter schedule. Many places require that theater majors participate in x number of plays each year. These take up a LOT of time. Drop a class.

Guys… This schedule is REQUIRED for my school. They make my schedule for me in freshman year :/

You’re going to be a busy beaver then.

What are the classes?

Oh my god. This makes me sad.
I don’t know, acting voice and history mostly…
I’m upset now. Will I be that busy, really?

I need 60 credits to graduate though, so it is not as bad as 120 or 90 like many schools.

Are you sure you need 60 credits in total to graduate, or is it just for the acting major?

Sorry, my bad. It’s 128 credits. 60 on only Acting field!

Yes, you will be busy. In order to obtain 128 credits in the normal four-year time period, you’ll most likely be taking 18 credit course loads for a while. It’s doable though.

So I will have NO free time during week days for the band, for instance?
I’m just trying to visualize next year…

You’ll have free time as long as you have good time management. If you do your work efficiently during the week, you’ll have a good amount of downtime.

No one here knows what school you go to and know one here knows what classes you’re taking. If it is required for theatre acting majors freshman year, then it clearly is doable. Why don’t you try to talk to current theatre students?

It’s definitely doable. My freshman year I took 18 credits each semester, worked 10-15 hrs a week, practiced piano 15 hrs a week, was in a musical in the fall, did other hw, and still found time for a social life. It’s all about balance and time management.
