Is taking 5 credits too much for a college freshman?

Im starting at a community college this month. I told my mom that I’ll be taking 5 classes and she immediately said that it would be too many classes, and that I’ll be tired(I do have a health problem, so I know she’s worried about that.)

It was funny because to me, it doesn’t seem like too much lol so I was certainly surprised.

My schedule is as follows:
Monday: BHS 103(Social problems in today’s world, 3 credits), PSY 111(psychological principles, 3 credits), BIO 130(Introduction to Physiology, lab, 0 credits), MAT 092(Math literacy, 3 credits)
Tuesday: ART 112 (Drawing I, lecture, 3 credits)
Wednesday: BHS 103(Social problems in today’s world, 3 credits), PSY 111(psychological principles, 3 credits), BIO 130(Introduction to Physiology, lecture, 4 credits), MAT 092(Math literacy, 3 credits)
Thursday: ART 112 (Drawing I, lab, 0 credits)
Friday: BHS 103(Social problems in today’s world, 3 credits), PSY 111(psychological principles, 3 credits), MAT 092(Math literacy, 3 credits)

Total credits: 16

If im overwhelmed, I’ll definitely drop the art, even though I love to draw…but I dunno, at first glance, it doesn’t seem to bad. What do you guys think?

No, that is not overwhelming.

Art classes generally do not have homework. Math literacy is likely pretty basic.

If you can take only four classes and have a full load, then start with five and drop one before the deadline. Usually you have at least a week or two to decide.

That’s not too many courses. It’s 16 credits which is average. Don’t judge by the number of courses, but the number of credits.

It seems very reasonable, you will have most of Tuesday/Thursday to study if you don’t have a job on those days. Manage your time we’ll and it is doable.

Just note the last drop date in your calendar so that if it does become overwhelming, you can easily drop a class.
