Is taking a class pass/fail bad for grad school/scholarshp/etc.?

at my school, one can take his social science electives pass/fail. SWEET Then, it occurred to me, maybe this will look bad on my transcript for grad school, scholarships, REUs, or other stuff like that.

I don't want to take easy classes and have to work to get an A. I just want to learn some things without being pressured to get good grades. (meaning, discover that I really hate this crap after getting a C) Besides, some of these electives aren't so easy. Like this religion class I'm taking next semester. The professor has a very low "easiness rating" on ratemyprofessors. And for the record, he memorized the entire bible, and he studied at the Harvard school of divinity. So I don't think he will treat us like we're boyscouts.

Anyways, is it bad?

If it is a class in your major, then you certainly should take it for a grade. Otherwise, I doubt it matters if you want to get a job, scholarship, or REU. Also, if you are aiming for medical school, it would be unwise to take any med school requirements pass/fail. Though if you are uncertain of a class, perhaps auditing it over the summer at your university, a local state university or at a community college may not be a terrible idea.

has anyone taken religious studies classes? how are they? I also want to take ASL (sign Language). I heard that one takes a lot of practice, so maybe a pass/fail for that one.
