Personally, I love volunteering, and think ECs are important. However, if I take the following schedule my GP will be lowered;
AP Eng Lang.
APUSH
AP Psych/Chem/Bio
AP Psych/Chem/Bio
Trig
Spanish 3
Student Government <- lowers gpa
Service Commissioner <- lowers gpa
I am already for sure doing student government, but should I do service commissioner aswell? In total I'll have been in student government for three years and the service commissioner for two by the time I graduate.

Oh I also volunteer at a local hospital weekly and do XC in fall and Badminton in spring. thanks

Well, it depends. What year of high school are you in?

soph @angelacao

this is my schedule for next year

Your school let you take 4 APs sophomore year. Man I wish I had your counselors.

the thing is, my school does not offer APs frosh/soph yr, so my avg weighted gpa is already low

Colleges don’t care about weighted GPA (except insofar as it’s used for class rank).

@Allude
Is this for your junior year?

@swaggyc not necessarily, we have to sign a consent form, but once we’re in an AP we’re completely LOCKED, there’s no chance of droppping the class.

@halcyonheather thank you, but my class is semi-competitive, what if I feel as if I won’t stay in the top 10%? I am still currently rank 1, but I’m not sure if I could still maintain the high rank. :/

@swaggyc yes

Are you going into the field of history/politics, things like that in college? If you are, then yes, it’s worth it, because colleges are going to want to see that you have a passion. They’ll also probably be aware of the fact that you sort of sacrificed your GPA.

@angelacao
I’m looking into going into economics actually, but are you sure? My main schools that I would like to get into are UC Berkeley, USC, UC Davis, UCLA, and maybe stanford.

I wouldn’t worry so much about GPA- if you’re already a good student then you should still stay fairly high-ranked even with the GPA-lowering classes. Plus, a lot of applicants will have identical schedules (i.e. all APs) so the gov/commissioner classes could help you stand out, especially if you’re passionate about them.
