Is taking a Math course over the Summer B like Pre-Calc, a bad idea?

Is it tougher doing Pre-Calc over the Summer?

So, I made the dilemma trying to catch up really quick and do MAC 2311 - a critical tracking course -, and I know if I stay in it, I won't get a very good grade. :( I'm withdrawing tomorrow.

So I'm in the dilemma taking Pre-calc Summer B or Fall. But yeah, I can't fall more behind for my major. So I'm planning on doing Summer B for it. Is this a bad idea? I want to have a full understanding and not just rush the friggen course. So when I take MAC 2311 again, I'll do well.

Would it just be better to do it in the Fall? Is it more difficult over the Summer to retina a full understanding and get a good grade.

Note that I do not attend UF, but I have taken summer classes (four in one summer, which is A LOT). From my experience, things move WAY faster in summer. I switched out of my summer stats class since I knew I couldn’t handle it (though my fall one moved at a much nicer pace). If you are good at math, you should have little to no problems with the summer calc class. If you HAVE to take it during summer, I wish you luck and there will always be other students/tutors/professors to help you grasp the material faster.

So my opinion is take it during the fall. I probably would have gotten a ‘C’ in stats had I stuck through it in summer. But since I took the fall class I ended up with a much better understanding of the class and walked away with an ‘A’.

idea: take it over the summer at your local community college and transfer the credits.

if thats not an option or doesn’t sound like a good idea (there are a few things that strike me as not that great about it), i would recommend taking it over the summer at UF. its not that bad. if you struggle you struggle. you have to take it eventually.

I would start at UF as early as possible, because there’s an extra level of rigor at UF and you want to get accustomed to how well you need to know the material. At community college I put in about 8 hours a week into Calculus (4.5 classes 3.5 studying) and absolutely crushed it. At UF I am putting in almost 20, and while I’m still shooting for the A I’ll be happy to come away with a B+.

If 2311 is in your critical tracking I’d definitely try to do PreCalc here as Calc 1 punishes a lot of people who aren’t ready to put in the work

summer vs. fall: I don’t think it makes much of a difference. A lot of people like to put a harder class like Ochem in a summer session, and it’s peaceful and easier to focus in the summer and there won’t be any conflicts with other classes/exams. It won’t turn an easy class into a hard one or vice versa

I forgot to mention this all happened because I was spring admit. For freshman year, and wanted to catch right up. If I started with Fall, I would have started with Pre-Calc… :frowning: Idiotic mistake.

hey, just out of curiosity as a “spring only” can you take classes next Fall and the fall after. I was thinking you could never take them but that would make it really hard to graduate
