Hey all

Hey all

Is taking the SEC license (being a licensed broker) at the age of 18 a good hook?

I think the word hook is kind of meaningless.

But yes, that is definitely something you can put down on your application. I bet that'll look great. I can't tell you for sure though.

I don't know the details about what it entails, but I think if you've done something with it then it is a fantastic thing that sets you apart.

So, um, care to elaborate? I'm interested.

I tend to focus less on words like "hook" and "tip factor" because... in the end, you get in or you don't, and it's the entire application that makes the adcoms swing one way or another... so i think it's better to try focusing on your application as a whole. sure, it's an interesting thing about you, so put it down!

Alright all. thanks for the answers. I'll soon persue this license but not to work as a broker but to enhance my financial steering skills so I can better manage my Ltd.

You can't take the series 6/7 without being employed...o.O.

sounds interesting... but is it possible?

I have a buddy who took the SEC.
He's at Wharton now.
So, yeah, it helps.
Taking into account everything else, of course.

I'm planning on taking the series 6 license! I'm not really employed, I have an internship at an investment firm though, and they told me to take it and they're paying for my books, classes, etc. Very nice of them, indeed.

but honestly, I am new to this whole license/business thing. I just wanted the internship in the first place to beef up my application for transfer. (Mind you, I do want to go to business school)

Anyway, anyone care to explain to me what series 6/7 or SEC licenses do? The only thing I know from my "boss" is that a series 6 license allows me to purchase mutual funds for clients, etc and if I get a series 7, I don't need to get a series 6. Also, I read online that a series 6 is a complete waste of time if I plan to be "fully licensed" (idk what that means!)

Hey, I know this thread is pretty old but I’m new here so I just saw it. I’m international student planning to double major in engineering and business. Since my mother is a banker and an amateur broker, I’m into it too. I sometimes do it with the money I collected (about 10.000 dollars. ) So, what is SEC license? How can I take it and what does SEC stand for? I tried to google it but found nothing.

Thank you for your time…
