Hi guys,
I'm a junior currently in Alg 2 and it is SUPER easy for me. Never been a math person, but for some reason Alg 2 just clicks for me, which is weird because I got a C- in Alg 1. Anyways I currently have a 100% in the class and I'm hoping my grade will stay somewhere around there by the time finals come around.

Now, I took Alg 1 in 8th grade and got an A. I applied and got into a prestigious prep school, but they made everyone take a placement test to see what math you would be placed in as a freshmen (Alg 1, Accelerated Alg 1, Geometry, or Honors Geometry). I don't know how, but I apparently did not do very well on the placement test because I was given Accelerated Algebra 1. I was given the option to take a 2 week long camp which would allow me to be in Geometry, but I was out of the country so I couldn't take it.

I ended up doing really bad in Alg 1, pretty good in Geometry, and now I'm doing great in Alg 2. Problem is, most of my grade is in Pre Calc/Calc, and I feel like now that I'm doing better in math, I should take Pre Calc over the summer and then take Calc as a senior. I want to major in neuroscience with a pre-med track, and it is recommended to take a semester or two of calc or stats, so I think taking Calc as a senior will give me a really good foundation for college calc. Not to mention if I take AP Calc AB, I can get some college credit.

Do you guys think taking Pre Calc over summer will be beneficial? Or should I just take it as a senior, even though most kids will have already taken it?

If you think you can handle the work load and time this will consume, then go for it, especially as it will catch you up to the level where most of your grade will be. However, keep in mind A LOT can change over the course of a school year. Best of luck with whatever you choose to do.

I took pre-calc over the summer, and I did pretty well. My program was 5 weeks consisting of 7-8 hour days. Pre-calc is essentially connecting the dots of all the things you learned in alg1/2, trig and geometry. If things are finally clicking for you then yes you should consider taking pre-calc.

were there a lot of exams and homework? would you say it was hard? @quadmaster

It was moderately hard, mainly because of the amount of the material we had to learn in the short amount of time. We had an exam/quiz everyday if not every other day.

As for homework, we had one project and a couple of take home quizzes. This may vary from program to program though.

Pre-calc is like a harder version of Alg 2 w/ trig. Wait and see how you do in Alg 2 for the rest of this year, and if you feel comfortable, definitely go for it.

I took pre Calc online this summer and found it really easy. I struggled with 2-3 topics but that’s because it wasn’t explained as thoroughly as the others. It took me about 2-3 hours a day for 2-3 weeks to finish the course. When I took the final exams what really came in handy was my calculator.

I’d say take it but it really depends on you. Finish algebra 2 first to see if you maintain an A. I made a 100 in algebra 2 as well during the first quarter but that gradually fell to 96s and 98s as the rest came. Pre cal is time consuming so really choose what’s best for you and what you think you can handle. You come first!

I really appreciate everyone’s advice, thank you all!

Do it! Don’t do it online though. Studies show that students remember more from actual classes. I have taken online classes before, and they were easy, but I didn’t like it much.
