I took the ACT without Writing in January and scored a 35 Composite (Math-36, English-34, Reading-36, and Science-33). I then signed up for the June ACT with Writing because my only SAT score at that point was a 2180 (bad day...) and I thought I would just use the ACT for college admissions. I got my May SAT score back and it's a 2300 (Math-800, Writing-740, and CR-760) which I'm relatively happy with. Would colleges frown upon me retaking the ACT (though this time with writing)?

Thanks in advance.

It depends on the school. If the schools you are applying to require you to take SAT +2 subject tests or only ACT with writing, you can retake ACT because you did nt do writing. However, if you already have some subject tests under your belt, you can ignore ACT with writing. So it comes down to subject test requirements vs ACT with writing that might be equal to the same.

I am planning to apply to top schools (Ivies, Duke, etc.). I took three Subject Tests on Saturday and am expecting 800 Math II, 750+ Spanish, and hopefully I can graze a 700 in Literature.

If you have SAT II scores, then you may not need ACT with writing. If you feel confident about a great outcome, nothing wrong with taking it.

UPenn, Brown and Yale will accept ACT with writing instead of SAT + subjects.

Thank you very much. I guess my question ultimately boils down to if I retake the ACT and score lower (I am confident I can get a 34+) or even the same, will it look bad for college admissions?
