Is talking about Open Curriculum overused?

Hi, I’m going to apply to Brown and I know a lot of people talk about the open curriculum in the app, is this overused or can I still get something out of it?

Are you talking about the supplement where they basically ask why you want to go to brown? Well in my case as a recently accepted Brown '14 student, I briefly mentioned the overused “quirky students” reason but key word: briefly. Talking about the open curriculum is overused but If that is why you really like Brown then yes, mention it but you’re going to have to twist it your way. This is where your ability to express yourself as a unique individual becomes crucial. Dont just talk about why the open curriculum is great, talk about why the open curriculum is great for YOU. I was able to slip in a couple anecdotes and I believe the more you personalize your essays, the more the admissions officer is able to perceive you as a real person.

Explaining how you’ll take advantage of Brown’s resources/you’ll be a resource for Brown is unlikely to be overused: what else do you talk about to convince them you want to go? The new curriculum is our most distinguishing feature, and if you truly understand it, and understand how you’ll use it, then explain that. If it’s a part of why you want to go to Brown, do it.

Ok so basically I just tell them that I value creating my own schedule of classes w/out the core classes I might not need… for that aspect… right? Are there any other benefits of Open Curriculum?
