Never overestimate the effect TASP (let alone any program) has on admissions. YES its arguably the most prestigious summer program and YES the majority of last year TASPers are going on to prestigious institutions. But to accredit their success (not saying you are) to TASP is stretching it. I know many of last years TASPers personally and they all are amazing people and got into those institution for more then just grades, their personalities and passions. So if you do get into TASP (good luck) realize that the program attracts and zones in on ppl like this so getting into TASP is sort of a testament to who you are and in the words of my interviewer "TASP gave me the confidence and showed that I could do and go wherever. It was the opening to my college career [At Stanford]"

Personally I consider a hook something that is unique to yourself, something that really is you. So no I don't think TASP is a hook but we will leave it as: it wont look bad on an app.

:-)

Good Luck on your interview (assuming your a finalist)

I am the parent of a TASPer and I will tell you that my DD did not look at TASP as a "hook" for college admission. She would, in fact, describe it as an invaluable experience that should not have anything to do with college admissions.
Having said that, I will tell you that the kids who are accepted to TASP are amazing, and would probably be admitted to the most selective colleges even if they did not attend TASP. As an example, the kids that were in her TASP at Cornell have been accepted to all of the ivies, Umich, Stanford, UChicago, etc.

Just to clear this up: you get into good universities on your own merits, not because of TASP. TASP does not make you awesome. You get into TASP BECAUSE you're awesome. TASP focuses on essays and personality, whereas colleges focus on that, but also on test scores and grades. It's a different process. Very different in some aspects. So someone might get into TASP and not get into Harvard, but someone who doesn't get into TASP can still get into Harvard easily. Etc etc etc.

alright, first of all, you posted earlier this school year that you went to cornell I. when it was exposed that you did not, in fact, attend tasp, you made up some story about how you were talking about "t-tasp".

what previous taspers said to you in the past:

"I have also seen inconsistencies in your other posts and though I honestly don't care about that, what really irks me is that you might be posing as a TASPer."

"It seems like you just googled "Cornell TASP" and clicked on the most legitimate link, since the link you've provided is cached. In addition, the program you've indicated only offers support for students within the state of New York; since you live in California, this program wouldn't apply to you. Finally, there are many other inconsistencies among your posts, including your SAT score, GPA, and extracurriculars. I remain unconvinced..."

"Yes, I remember. I have a theory about ScrewedHopeful.. he probably messed up in terms of GPA during freshman and sophomore year and wants to see if he can make up for it. This explanation would account for the multiple discrepancies; he's probably just testing the waters to see what kinds of activities he would hypothetically need to get into a good college."

..if you implied that you were a senior earlier this year, that means the college application process is already over for you. why would you need to know if tasp is a "hook" or not? i don't mean to sound harsh, but saying that you went to tasp, then making something up when other people called you out on it, and then asking about the value of this program in college admissoins... i don't even know what else to say.

MSM? Wait, so she speaks Spanish too, I assume? I only know one Cornell TASPer with the initials MM...is S the middle name? AAH CONFUSION! XD You could just private message me, though.

I don't really care if you're honest about it; I care that you might be there for the wrong reasons and I hope that you don't get in. It's awful and it's sad that you could take the place of someone that is truly deserving.

And you know what? TASP doesn't really do much if you're not great in your own right. I have a few TASPers that can testify to that.

lmao. yes, obviously, ScrewedHopeful. oh darn you got me. but not all trolls, just you! (awww don't you feel special!) luckily for you, other people have called you out so many times in the past that there wasn't much patrolling needed to be done. i wish you the best of luck in TASP and all your future endeavors.

Correlation does not mean causation! Maybe it's just doubleplusgood students that are accepted into TASP that would've been accepted into prestigious universities with or without it.
