Is the 15" Macbook Pro too big/heavy to carry around?

I had made up my mind to go for the 15" MBP instead of the 13" one, but I recently visited an AppleStore to actually see them in person. While I definitely liked the bigger screen on the 15", it seemed rather big and heavy to carry around on campus often. The 13", on the other hand, seemed like the perfect size to carry around a college campus, and while the screen size didn't bother me too much when I viewed it for a few mintues at the store, I was afraid that it would become a problem later on once I start using it for more than just a few minutes.

No… But I’d recommend you buy the 13-inch and a separate monitor for work and movies in your dorm.

You will feel the extra two inches, especially if you carry it around all day. Get the 13" if you plan to regularly carry your computer around.

I understand the 13" is obviously superior in terms of portability. But is it bothersome at all to look into the smaller screen for hours when web browsing or typing long essays?

I understand the 13" is obviously superior in terms of portability. But is it bothersome at all to look into the smaller screen for hours when web browsing or typing long essays? This is especially a concern for me as I’ve always used a desktop until now that had a fairly large screen.

I have carried various models of the 15" PowerBook G4 and MacBook Pro for the last 7 years, including hundreds of thousands of miles worth of business travel, and have never felt like I’d want anything lighter. For me, the 15" is the perfect balance of power, weight and screen size.

The 15" model is perfect for productivity and fun IMO, and makes up for the bit of extra weight. Personally, I complain easily about carrying a heavy load, so I myself would go for the lighter/cheaper 13" MBP.

Alternatively, the new MB Air’s with SSD’s look amazing :)

Haha, the 15" one features a quad core processor - it’s awesome. Get it. You’ll get used to it.
