Is the act needed for financial aid

My dad believes that certain scholarships and financial aid programs require act scores, as far as I've seen, I only need an act or sat, and I've already taken the Sat, so who's right here?

IF you are looking for merit money, some schools will ask for either a minimum ACT or an SAT score, along with a minimum gpa requirement.

I see that your SAT score is a 2080. How does it break out as far as CR + Math? Overall, your score may be kind of low when it comes to chasing admissions to an Honors program or serious merit money.

What schools are you targeting?

Maybe your dad wants you to take the ACT because some students do better on this exam than they do on the SAT. Could this possibly be the case for you?

I know our home state requires the ACT to get an in-state honors scholarship.

This is very true.

What is your Math + CR score? that combo is often what determines merit scholarships.

The ACT consists of Math, Science Reasoning, English, & Reading sections. So, you may want to get a practice book and review before taking the test.

BTW…it looks like you’re interested in UCs as an OOS student. Your stats are not high enough for merit at a UC. UCs pretty much reserve their merit and need-based aid to instate students and only award some merit to OOS students with really high stats.

Almost all will ask for either/or. However, it’s true that most people do better on one than the other. I got a 33 on my ACT and I don’t think I cracked 2000 on my SAT.

All colleges that I know of will accept either. However, some scholarships require a specific one. My D is applying for a tuition waiver that requires (and is based on) the ACT.

Thanks for the input, my critical reading is 650 and my math was 760, and also yes I’m from Texas and am mainly interested in Texas/ cali schools bc of my familys location

Any others think they know?

Both tests are treated equally by colleges.
