So many people say the ACT is easier than the SAT? Personally, I'm not very familiar with the ACT. For those of you who have taken both, what do you think? I think I would get killed on the ACt because I read so slow.
The thing that gets me is... if it's really easier, than it's easier for everyone, and so after the curve, it's not really easier.

no it's not easier. it's quite a bit different
the timing is a lot harder, and the math tests higher level than the SAT.
but the questions are more straightforward. so it really depends on different people.
I preferred the SAT.

supposedly..

SAT = tests your potential
ACT = tests what you know so far

I'd say the SAT is more of a "power" test whereas the ACT is a "speed" test. Both of these aspects, I'd say, test potential.

I'd say the ACT is easier to do well, but harder to ace. Only 200 people get 36's each year, Harvard turns down 1100 1600/2400's.

Well, only 218 people get 2400s each year...

DSC good point. where did you get those stats, though? Ashraf doesn't seem to agree

Harvard turned down 1100 applicants with 800s on the Math portion.

Yeah, I didn't remember that correctly, but here was the article that has that stat:

And that does make more sense.

they're a lot different, i personally found the SAT easier. The ACT questions confuse me a lot, and the science sections are hard.

I think it's true for both SAT and ACT that only 200-250 students get the perfect score each year.

ponders What are the chances for both happening at once?

turns to stats book

It's pretty rare. Some asian kid here in the Chicago area got a perfect on both and he got on the news.

I honestly think the ACT is harder. I mean take the writing section of the SAT. It is so much easier to score well on that because the questions are all the same, whereas the English section of the ACT has 75 questions, and missing 1 is already a 35. Also it has a science section, which can get tricky. The reading section is harder too, because it doesnt give as many exact line references.

I find the SAT critical reading section very hard, whereas the ACT's reading section asks more basic and easily found answers

i guess there's no answer to this question

ACT questions are DEFINITELY more straightforward....like if you don't want to spend a time/money on prep courses, personally I would recommend ACT. At least that was the case for me o.O. All you need is a review book, and you're pretty set.

for a question like this, everyone's got an opinion, but no one's got an answer

Oh I would definitely say the ACT was easier for me... but in a different way. I was really REALLY stressed while i took it the first time and was sure i failed it, but i got a 29. the second time i took it, i was even more stressed (we had just moved to a new country in my senior year and we were still in hotels, etc) and i had to pee so badly the whole time, and i felt like I had wasted my money. got a 31. My SAT was a 1200, so i was happy with my ACT score! :D

It was much easier for me, because they don't play games on you. It didn't stress me out at all.
