*IS* the AP English Language Test curved?

Does anyone know?

My English teacher says that you need straight 6's on the essays to pass (get a 3)....but according to the Cliffs book that she made everyone in the class buy, if you do pretty decently on the MC (like 7 wrong out of 55 - that's around what I normally get), getting straight 6's will juuust get you a 5!

And then my friend who is also in APEL and whose mum is an English teacher (though not of APEL) said that the test isn't curved...but according to the Cliffs book, it certainly sounds like it is - and with a pretty generous curve, too o.o....

So who's right? Will straight 6's on each essay get you a 3, or a 5? (Assuming you do as well on the MC as mentioned above.) Is Cliffs wrong?

I'm starting to think Cliff's curve IS way off....because if the curve is so generous that you only need straight 6's to get a 5, then why would only 5.4% of students get 5's?!

If anyone could please clear this up...thanks a lot!!

...Because most people get a lot worse than -7 on the MC.

Every AP test is curved, but no sources agree on the exact curve, because it varies year to year, based on the performance of the students. Just do your best.

Wow, really.....so the Cliffs book is about right, you think? o.O

Haha yeah, maybe I shouldn't have posted this at midnight.....but um....now that it's morning, can anyone else confirm this? :D

you need roughly 108 points for a 5. the multiplier for the essays is 3.0556 and for the multiple choice you subtact 1/4 for every wrong answer then multiply the total by 1.25
