I'm an international student (currently studying in Asia) and I was recently told by a friend that taking the AP exams would boost my academic profile. The thing is, I'm already doing the IB Diploma Program which is a challenge in itself. Will the Ivies consider my IB Diploma to be sufficient or is it advisable for me to take the AP as well?

Thank you! (:

I’m sure the IB Diploma will suffice (most of your courses are HL?)

IB is generally held to be equivalent to AP

AP scores are only self reported on the common app, they are not sent as part of the application process. That said, rigor is important but the IB diploma might cover that. Ivy League schools require two sat subject tests - if you do we’ll on those, that would help (a lot of students take more than two)

Whatever the most rigorous courses available are the ones you should take. If you are in an IB program, be sure to include some HL courses (as opposed to SL courses), particularly in your areas of strength and interest.

I’m sure the IB diploma will be fine. Students applying here from the states are not at a disadvantage because they apply with IB scores instead of AP.
