Is the AP Psych exam worth taking?

I’m currently enrolled in AP Psych and am doing extremely well in the class (100 average) and have no doubt that if I took the exam I’d get a 5, but I don’t know if it’s worth it. As a future chemical-engineering major it doesn’t seem like I will be able to get any usable credit for taking the exam and it will just be a waste of $90 and 3 hours of my time.

Has anyone here taken the AP Psych exam and actually gotten credit for it? (other than psych majors/minors)

And if so what college

Take the exam. If an AP course shows up on your transcript and you don’t report a score, it’ll look sketchy. Especially because you have such a high average

Take the AP Psych exam if you’re a junior. Otherwise, don’t bother if you’re a senior and your college doesn’t grant AP credit for it.

Some colleges have a social science gen ed which AP Psych can be applied towards.

But aren’t ap scores self-reported after acceptance? so why would it look sketchy?

@linsgal

TAKE IT. I used it for a liberal studies requirement. No matter what major you are, you’ll probably have a liberal arts requirement (I’m in engineering).

No. Score reports need to be sent after acceptance. Scores are self-reported on the application.

It may look sketchy

If a class shows as AP on the transcript and you choose not to report a score, the AO may assume one of three things:
• Financial hardship prevented you from taking the exam
• You were not motivated enough to take the exam
• You took the exam and performed poorly (1 or 2)
The first one will not affect your application; the last 2 may raise an eyebrow. AO’s can, and have, contacted GC’s to explain why there are no AP scores reported on the application.
