Is the appication due ON January 1st or BY January 1st?

As the title says, when exactly is the application due? I am working on several applications at once and could really use the extra day if we can submit it on January 1st.

It is due at January 1st 11:59 pm according to your local time.

However it is always good to submit beforehand and not at the last minute just to be safe :)

yes i agree with kira, but I think it’s important to note that it is the SCHOOL’s 11:59 that is more important than yours.

I might be wrong but that is the impression I have gotten from CC/colleges

Well since Stanford is on the west coast you’ll probably be fine with submitting by your local 11:59.

Just to be safe though I’ll probably submit mine the day before.

Thanks! I will probably submit mine earlier too, but I was asking just in case I need a little bit more time.

The Common Application records time based on EST. Regardless, it’s really best if you don’t wait 'till (literally) the last minute, because something can go wrong with the server, or information might be mishandled.

Yeah, if you read the letter from the admissions director, last year about 1000 apps were not received by stanford because they were last minute.

^^^The 1,000 apps were not considered because the basic application was submitted after the deadline. They will accept all applications up to the deadline including last minute submittals. The one thing they are fairly strict about is pressing the submit button for the application in time. It is my understanding in talking to an admissions officer, if an applicant has some outstanding documents such as references not done in time, they are more flexible about that. But why take any chances?

As was stated multiple times, don’t wait to the last minute.

go here: [Application Deadlines & Fees : Stanford University](http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/application/deadlines/index.html)

and read the very bottom line

I noticed that Yale has a Dec. 31 deadline for apps. MAILED in. But, they extend the online application date to January 3 in case of computer issues.

All deadlines are midnight Pacific Time of the electronic submission or postmark dates listed above.

Based on this statement from the link sunfire provided, doesn’t this mean, applications are due Dec. 31 11:59, and not Jan.1 11:59 like kira said?

Also, is the transcript due on this date, because my counselor is going to do that after the winter break :|.

From sunfire link: Application deadline is January 1 (“midnight Pacific Time of the electronic submission date”).

I take that to mean January 1, 11:59 pm Pacific time or January 2, 2:59 am Eastern time.

This is just my interpretation. I hope everyone is close to finishing. Good luck.

Yeah that line is very ambiguous. I still think it’s January 1 11:59 PM like cardfan says.

ok, as conclusive evidence that the application is due

11:59 PM (PST) on January 1st
or
2:59 AM (EST) on January 2nd

read this:
"5. Freshman application deadline
The deadline for submitting the Common Application First-Year Application, Stanford Supplement, and application fee/waiver is Friday, January 1, before midnight PACIFIC TIME.

The Common Application uses an Eastern Time date stamp, so remember to subtract three hours to account for the time zone difference to determine if you submitted by our deadline. For example, if you submit your application at 10 PM Pacific Time, your Common Application account will show a January 2, 1 AM date stamp. However, because we use a Pacific Time deadline, your application was submitted in time. If “Submitted” or “Downloaded” appears next to your Application and Stanford Supplement on the Common Application Web site, your submission was successful."

Yeah, I just started the supplement today. 8 more hours guys… I have 2 more essays to go.
