Is the Arts Supplement really worth it?

I just found out the Stanford Application with Arts Supplement is Dec. 1, unlike a lot of the other schools. I haven't completed all my essays, and I still need to perfect the percussion pieces which I wish to play for my Arts Supplement. Should I push to try and complete the Stanford + Arts Supplement by Dec. 1, or should I focus more on the Stanford Supplement and just submit the normal application by Jan. 1? Also, does anyone have any insight as to how the Arts Supplements are taken into account. Specifically music.

Thanks! Appreciate any advice/info!

Unless if you really stand out, it is not worth it.

I’m kind of in the same position as you. I’m going to submit mine by December 1st, but then again, at most of my schools I am applying as a double major with music so I’ve been working on prescreening tapes. If you are really good at percussion, I’d say go for it. I think that the arts supplement will be taken into account, at least I hope so, and you do have enough time to get the stanford essays done before december first if you work hard :)

right. but I guess the whole point of me doing the arts supplement is to stand out? So I feel I would. Are you saying “stand out” in comparison to all others submitting supplements?

I feel ya wpgm51. Thanks for the encouragement, and good luck to you!

If your music is one of the biggest parts of your app, I would do the supplement. If your percussion skills are extremely good, making you stand out among supplement submitters than you should defiantly do the supplement. Even if your skills aren’t the best in the world, as long as you show the results of the hard work you have put into your art, I think that the supplement is worth it. Do not submit the supplement and focus more on your other essays if music is a minor part of your app, or just something you do for fun, but I don’t get that impression from you.

And no problem, I’m going through the same thing right now :)

hmmm… That really helped clear my head on this. I appreciate it. I think I will definitely pursue the December 1st deadline! To be honest, that Arts Supplement is the only thing that gives me hope at a school like Stanford! haha
