Is the Barrons book for SAT US History any good?

I have used Barrons in the past, and it always seems to be harder than the actual test. Is this true for US History?

BTW, I think it being harder is a good thing.

Barrons books are typically harder than the actual tests, and this should hold true for US History as well. I’m pretty sure Barron’s books are just more difficult for everything :/

not to hijack the thread, but, also, is there a huge different between the AP USH and SAT II USH barron’s books? could I use the AP book to prepare for the SAT II?

But I would still get the SAT Subject Test book–just not to take a risk.

My friends have used Barrons and they said it’s a lot harder. And yes it’s probably a good idea to get some of the real tests. I took Sparknote’s tests and the actual thing proved to ask a lot of random questions.

@Scrivener No there is not much difference between the AP and SAT books.

^^ thanks

barrons is literally the worst one

@scrivener the book recommended by most for SAT II USH is AMSCO, and that is a book written for APUSH. So yes, some books can be used interchangeably.

Barron is harder but very good for SAT 2 :D

I heard Crash Course (REA) is also an excellent choice. Any thoughts?

I actually wanted to start the same thread.

I used Barron’s for SAT I and I was satisfied with it but when I went on Amazon to buy Barron’s book for US history I noticed it’s from 2007. Has the test changed at all during the last three years? I can’t afford to waste my money so I’d rather buy just one book for this test. Which should I buy, the Barron’s book or the highly praised on CC Amsco APUSH book?

(I should probably mention that I’m not American and thus I didn’t take any AP classes. I’m familiar with US history from my history class but I suppose my knowledge is not as in depth as that provided by AP classes.)

Definitely the Amsco book. If you read through it carefully and memorize the info, it should guarantee at least a 750. Also, if you want to do SAT II USH practice tests, I would recommend getting the official collegeboard book for USH and World History. It contains 2 practice tests. But I definitely would not recommend barrons because it is overly complicated and convoluted.

Crash Course is an excellent prep for USH.

Just a quick question- I’m freaking out about US history. I’ve never studied it before and I have 1 month to do so. Am I doomed? I’ve made summary notes and I got 580 in my last prac test. Is it not possible to get over 750 in 3 weeks? :S
