Ik the program boasts 80+% acceptance rate. Everyone that I know that's been in Ucb tap got into Berkeley. Ik one guy that got in Ucb with a 3.6 and no EC's except for tap. Is it almost like an informal acceptance? Any of you know some that got rejected by cal despite being in Ucb tap?

Can you actually confirm this 80% rate for both UCLA/UCB? I’ve seen people use this statistic before but I’ve never actually seen any data behind it. If that 80% marker is true then it isn’t an “informal acceptance” but rather an indicator that you have a really good shot.

That’s all I could find. Also, tap holds a convention every year in October for its members. During this convention, the reps talk about how to better your personal statement etc. one of the reps talked about how 80%+ of members get into Berkeley. Can anyone else shed some light on this?

For what it’s worth, I’ve never heard of anyone(On collegeconfidential or any other site) being rejected from UC Berkeley if they were a member of their TAP program.

It’s a lot like UCLA’s TAP, from what it seems: if you’re a member of the program, you’ll almost certainly get in, provided your GPA is decent and you have your prereqs done by spring.

The downside to UC Berkeley’s TAP program is that, unlike UCLA’s, it’s invite-only. More than likely, you’ll be notified that UCB TAP representatives will visit your community college, no doubt to educate people about the program, it’s requirements, and to “invite” them in. I was notified by my college that a UCB TAP rep would come to my school, presumably to do these things. If I wanted to go to Berkeley, I would’ve taken up the offer to attend.

I hope this helps. I take it you want to be a member of Berkeley’s TAP program?
