Is the campus wireless?

Hey, I was just wondering if Tufts' campus is wireless and if its not, are most of the buildings wireless? Thanks :)

Most of Tufts is not wireless :( it really stinks. BUT, the library, campus center, and some classrooms (in Pearson specifically) are wireless. I hear that apparently Tufts is trying to make the whole campus wireless within the next few years.

Hmm yeah that does stink... all the dorms have internet connections though, right?

definitely. just remember to bring a loooong ethernet cord in case your desk is far from the outlet thing!

or just get cheap wireless stuff for your dorm room

how does that work?

just like if you were to get wireless stuff for your house. there are these tiny 60 dollar wireless access points and routers that will just plug into your dorm internet connection and turn it wireless. If you've already got a wireless card in your laptop, there's almost no hassle. The best is 3Com's OfficeConnect Travel Router. And i'm pretty sure that tufts will have a lot more wireless access in the very near future if they want to keep up with the joneses at all. They're about to start a lot of construction, so that's a nice cue for them to set up an outdoor system...i hope. Well, either way we'll survive.

Keep up with the joneses? I'm a Jones! haha. But thanks for explaining that to me...

I thought Tufts prohibited those mini-wireless hubs because they were very unsafe (dorms only).

Oh really? huh. ah well.

Snuffles,
I didn't know anything about them being unsafe. Can you explain? Thanks so much for your input.

They can be potentially unsafe because it is easy for others to gain access to the network if the network isn't properly encripted, especially in a dorm enviornment with a bunch of rooms next to each other.
