So I've been reading and skimming a lot of the past years' Decisions threads for Yale and some other Ivies and I can't believe how amazing some applicants are. So far, there seems to be a much higher acceptance rate on CC so does that mean we CCers may fare better in the actual admissions round, especially for Yale SCEA? Or are most other applicants also just as competitive?

It seems to be a brutal world of admissions stats, :P I just don't know how the real competition out there compares to the level of applicants on this site. Anyone else have any insights or thoughts?

I think this site has a lot of people who comprise a nice selection of the real top tier students. There’s so many people who are just obsessed with the notion of getting into the top colleges, and it takes a certain type of person to seek out a site like this.

That said, I remember a post a while back by people who were collating admissions results, and the overall CC acceptance rate was, I seem to recall, quite similar to the overall acceptance rate of the whole population. Maybe it was a little higher, but not by much.

I know there has to be a lot of superb applicants who are not members here, so I guess there’s a lot of people out there who are also super selective. It’s not like all 22,000 Yale applicants are members here.

Our evidence indicates “yes” - this is an especially competitive group of applicants here on CC.

Entomom kindly posted last year’s SCEA results anlaysis thread. Note that there are two analyses done - first on those posters who volunteered in advance to post results and then on a more generalized group of all posters who posted results. For this latter group:

SCEA admission rates for CC posters were about twice as high as for the whole SCEA pool. This is true even of the pledgers who were posting before results were announced, whose results are not skewed by the tendency of posters to report only positive results.
