Is the city your campus?

Hi! I’m thinking about Macalester (my best friend lives in St Paul) and I’m a little worried – how much of a student’s time is spent off campus? Is there a community feel or is it very scattered?

Bump. @mermaidenly Good general question for colleges in cites like Mac and Barnard and GWU. How much more time and activities are spent off-campus, and how different of a college experience is this from somewhere like Grinnell or Kenyon?

@mermaidenly I am a current Junior at Macalester College. For the most part, there’s a much smaller community closer to campus, but there still is plenty of access to the Twin Cities and plenty of volunteer opportunities and fun activities to do in the Twin Cities as well. I feel like the community is what you make of it. The more you get involved on and off campus, the more you’ll develop your own sense of community with the people you’re involved with. I personally go off campus for the concerts. There are a lot of pretty cool concert venue and shows in the local coffee shops as well. If you have any more questions regarding our campus. Feel free to email me at our extended sampler email which is extendedsampler@macalester.edu.

Best,
Emmanuel Leal
