Is the College Board "Off to College Checklist" Correct?

It says that one should bring 21 pairs of underwear and 21 pairs of socks (more if one plays a sport) to college? Is this much really required? 21 underwears?

You have 3 options.
1) Bring 21 pairs of underwear and do laundry every three weeks or so.
2) Bring fewer than 21 pairs of underwear and do laundry more frequently than every three weeks.
3) Wear underwear multiple times before washing.

What's so complicated?

I did laundry once a week...perhaps I was weird...

That's probably more often than most people. I did it probably once every 2-3 weeks, but I also had a lot clothes.

Yep, it's required, they inspect your bags upon arrival, anything less than 21 pairs and you will be sent home to get more.

^^HAHAHA
seriously though...underwear is one thing i would NOT want to run out of. socks I can handle rewearing in an emergency. underwear NO. so I will probably bring 30 or more pairs.

30+ pairs?! Holy crap!

Lol, well I buy a TON at a time whenever victoria's secret has a sale. so I have like 50 pairs sitting in my drawer at home....30s not a big deal for me.

Yeah, um, 21+ pairs of underwear is a good idea. You never know when you might be too broke to do laundry for a while and you don't wanna have to go commando (unless that's your thing!) for 4 days while you try to scrounge up enough quarters to wash stuff. 21+ socks is stretching it though. Especially when school first starts, you'll probably be wearing sandals or flip flops all the time anyway so you don't really need that many socks, unless you're an exercise freak. As it gets colder, you may need more, but honestly I don't really mind rewearing socks a couple days in a row (and maybe that's just me) unless they're really gross and sweaty or something.

wow....whoever posted this has NO life/ needs to worry about other things

c'mon underwear and socks!!! from the thought of this question ou should be worried about making friends

Well, kind of hard to make friends if you're constantly scratching down there and your feet stink up the room. =P

ststephen78: That's one pathetic college you go to.

lolo1234: Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt your rather "important" conversation regarding the "Molecular mass of Carbon-12 isotopes". So no Nobel for you now?

nice way to put it melli. Personally, when I go to college, I would prefer to do laundry once a month at most. Just get lots of plain white t-shirts and plain shorts and socks and stuff. Simple.

"3) Wear underwear multiple times before washing."

LOL.NO!

I never change my underwear. I've been wearing these breifs for 5 days straight. I smell like an ape, and people on the street look like I'm some kind of bum from the street begging for money to use it to buy some beer, (though that could be a good idea in College:p) and that people have barfed in front of me and said many nasty and revolting comments about my revolting stench, but it's all good. As long as I'll save that extra penny!

laundry every 3 weeks? it would start to stink after about the second week. i change clothes multiple times each day (work, gym, regular) so my pile would grow quickly. luckily im only moving about 15mins away and my mom would do anything to get me to come home for a couple of hours each week lol, laundry being one of those things.

Ain't tht kinda abusing your parents? Why don't you stay and live with them, then if you only live 15 min away?

yeah, I've deffinetly gone a month without doing laundry before. . . but I have a lot of clothes, and a lot of underware. Bring as much of it as you can.
