is the commonapp major binding ?

hey guys, just wanted to know if the major you apply to cornell for on common app is binding. i was thinking of maybe putting a a more obscure major there ro increase my chances of admission and then switching of i get in.

possible ?

What college are you applying to?

for CAS and COE then no, it’s not binding, and you are officially undecided and your major bears nothing in your application.

If any of the other colleges then your major is what you are accepted into, and it is official from the moment you step on the campus.

Well, if you get into a particular school, you aren’t bound to that school. I believe you can change majors within that school. However, if you’re interested in a major at a different Cornell college, it may be more difficult to switch to that school.

I would probably discourage you from doing that, as I don’t think it would help. Above all, they’ll still be looking at you based on whether or not you fit the school: grades, classes, ECs, essays, SATs. And they also judge how well you fit into the school that you’re applying for, rather than your major.

I may be wrong. This is from what I’ve read and heard. Best of luck though!
