My son is using the new College board blue book for practicing. I have a copy of the edition before this blue book I thought he might be able to use once he finished the newer book. Are the tests in the older book different from the current edition?
thanks

i think there is only one extra and the rest are the same but double check that

yes he is partially correct.
the previous edition has 8 practice tests, and the latest edition has 10. if i remember correctly, seven tests in the latter are reprints and three new tests that are added are previously administered exams.

What book would you suggest then after the Blue book? I was thinking a Princeton one.

For obvious reasons, it’s generally better to use real College Board materials than it is to use simulated problems put together by test prep companies.

After the Blue Book, I would suggest the College Board’s SAT Online Course. The Blue Book (in its current form) contains three real tests (October 2006, January 2007, May 2007) and seven amalgamations of old tests (plus some new questions to reflect the changes to the SAT implemented in 2005). There are three additional tests available for download from the College Board’s website (see SilverTurtle’s guide for the links; I believe the tests are from March 2005, October 2005, and January 2006). The SAT Online Course, while a bit more expensive, does contain four additional real tests (June 2005, May 2006, May 2007 Sunday, October 2007) as well as five additional amalgamations. It also includes an automatic essay scorer that I’ve found to be reasonably accurate. In total, there are 10 real tests and 12 amalgamations available from the College Board (13 amalgamations if you have access to the first practice test in the old Blue Book).

If 22 (or 23) tests isn’t enough, it’s probably time to get a life. Seriously.

Thanks for the ideas. Actually, my son took the Dec SAT and did well but is retaking it in March to see if he can raise CR. So he had already gone through 6 of the Blue book tests, including the first 3, prior to Dec which is why he is running low on practice tests.

buffalowizard, I just looked over silverturtle’s guide and I think those links to practice tests you mention are just links to practice booklets, not full tests. If I am wrong, would you mind posting the links from his guide?

Also, If one pays for the online collegeboard program, can the tests and answer sheets be printed so they can be done on paper like the real test?

online course is available for 10 bucks on ebay

I’m sure this will sell immediately but it isn’t legal

Sometimes you have to cut through half the packet to get to the practice test.

You are right! Thanks!

^^yes he is correct, thx for clarifying everything.

Yes, thanks for clarifying and being so helpful.

I did check our old blue book and you are absolutely correct. Test #1 is different. Tests 2-7 are the same as in the newer edition tests 3-10. So conceivably someone could buy the older book used on Amazon to get that first test.

Additionally, the current online college board free download for 2010-2011 is the same as the 2008-2009 test you gave me the link to so no need to print both.
