This is my third and last year going.

noooooooo.

LOLOLOL no

it's fun though:D

not at all, but it is fun. i went 3 years ago in '04.

doese CTY give a scholarship?
i have a friend who's on scholarship for a private high school provided from johns hopkins. she's doin cty this summer...
is the scholarship another program

i got a scholarship because i got a 1420 on the old SAT when i was in 7th grade...not sure if it was an outside program or from CTY because my parents did everything back then.

SO much fun, but not selective.

Well, it is somewhat selective. (See eligibility at http://cty.jhu.edu/ts/acceptabletests.html) Most of the kids are middle schoolers or in the first year or two of high school. If the course you are taking ties in with your areas of interest, I think it is probably helpful.

It's a somewhat selective program - not everyone who takes the tests gets the grades to qualify. Prestigious? Eh, dunno about that.

well it's like saying if they limite SAT to 1500+ (out of 2400)
not everyone gets pass 1500, so it's "selective"
but it's still a easy to get in program

(i dont know in te case of CTY, i'm not sure, but have a friend who got this scholarship for her private boarding school, and she's no way smart)

Hey this is my 4th year for CTY, going to jHU in like 2 days. But is it not a good thing to put when applying to colleges?

Not really a good thing for college applications. I mean, if it was an extremely selective program like TASP or RSI that would be an altogether different story, but CTY wouldn't really impress anyone in the admissions committee, especially at selective schools. If you did any volunteer projects or even held a part-time job, that may be a more wise thing to bring up during the admissions process.

Even if i apply to jhu lol? YEah i was just expecting to mention it somewhere in apps, but not have it a big thing. Maybe i can blend it in with an essay or somethin that asks for life experince etc.

Plus i mean summer camp is to have fun and learn anyways. It would have been cool to have a side effect of being good on college apps. but i don't really care. Its fun and i learn.

CTY is a great program independent of selectivity. It's a great way for students of similar academic talents to be together.

It's also a great way to familiarize students with a residential college environment.

Mhmm, this has been established. And everyone here agrees. But since the whole thread is about its selectivity, we've been addressing this matter.

CTY is selective in that the program requires minimum scores on the SAT (or similar tests) that are quite a bit higher than the average (especially for the age of the student when taking the test). I think it WOULD be worth listing on a college application as it shows interest in learning and a willingness to do something challenging. It may not be the MOST prestigious program around, as 100s of people attend CTY programs every year, but it is nothing like a typical summer camp.

It'll probably be impressive to your nextdoor neighbors and teachers, but for college, no. end of story. but go anyway, 'cause it's pretty darn fun :)

To the OP, I think the JHU application asks if you have attended CTY summer programs. I don't know that it's given a lot of weight, however. I would think what is more important on your college applications is what you did after CTY- for instance, did you take your CTY experience and use it to obtain a research opportunity the following summer? I would think that is something colleges would like to see.
