The UC site says, "...be sure to take your admissions tests no later than December of your senior year... to ensure that your application receives prompt and full consideration," and "If you plan to take an exam December, indicate the planned test date on your admission application."
But the deadline to send test scores is December 31st so I'm a little confused. If I take the December ACT, the scores won't be available and sent until mid-January to early Feburary. That seems much too late. So can I take the test in December, I just have to indicate it on my application? Or is it really too late to take it since the scores will be sent really late?

Why do you think they want you to indicate a late test date? For what purpose besides holding off on deciding on your app until all the expected scores come in. They aren’t here to deceive you, you know.

As long as you indicate you plan to take that test and get the scores sent you should be fine.
