Is the Duke supplement (RD) due on the 10th?

The common app website doesn't say so, but some of my friends do.. what's the truth?

the supplement is only due the 10th if you wish to have an alumni interview...if this is not important to you the supplement is due the regular date (which is 1/2 I believe)

if you submit the supplement after the 10th, then you may still be interviewed, but you are not guaranteed to get one. good luck!

what do you reckon is more important.. "why duke" or guaranteed interview?

Because I haven't even started "why duke" yet..

If you submit after the 10th, and then email the admissions office and ask for an alumni interview, do you think they could give you one?

Such bad advice in this thread. I submitted my application for RD in November, had my interview in November. I submitted the supplement a week ago. If you had sent in the application without the supplement you would have still got the interview.

collegehopeful78 i think the reason you still got an interview is becuase you sent your app so early. duke assumes most people will send in the supp bfore the app. basically, i think future applicants simply need to send in one off the two by th 10th

Well I did Yale/Stanford early so I already had my common app done. I like how it turned out though.

The same ("bad") information is given by the Duke website,.

Duke University Admissions: Interviews

"If you submitted Form A by the December 10 deadline and are interested in an interview, please fill out and submit this form. Because of the large number of applicants and limited number of committee members, we cannot guarantee an interview for every applicant. However, committee members will make a concerted effort to contact the students in their areas who have met these deadlines."

Duke University Admissions: Deadlines

That being said, my D submitted after Dec 10th and was recently offered an interview.

Well, colleges are not as strict with specifics as people seem to think. For example in a program known as Questbridge it said that applicants who are participating can't apply early. I know a few people who got rejected from Amherst via the QB program. They took the initiative and applied ED to Amherst and got in. In today's world if you can't find the loopholes, you can't blame anyone but yourself.

On that note I think interviews are quite useless. Especially for schools of Duke's caliber. Top schools seem to me tend to have most of their alumni being young professionals. My Duke interview,a lawyer, only devoted 20 min and rushed out to a meeting.Yale interview,a doctor, had a siutuation with a patient.

But where exactly is the bad information? Are you saying it's bad to use the information on a schools website, and you should focus instead on finding loopholes? And that your anectdotal examples contstitute "good" information?

collegehopeful has a point. Of course we should follow the rules so that we don't unnecessarily put our applications at risk, but we should also try not to worry too much about every stage of the process because the rules are there to make things run smoothly, not weed out applicants.

So the bad information is

"the supplement is only due the 10th if you wish to have an alumni interview...if this is not important to you the supplement is due the regular date "
or
"if you submit the supplement after the 10th, then you may still be interviewed, but you are not guaranteed to get one." ?

I think I've seen some bad information ( like anecdotal examples given as "truth" ) but I don't see it here.
