I have just completed my junior year and plan to submit my college applications when all the colleges I am hoping for allow me to do so—August 1st. However, I have recently discovered that there is one particular college that only accepts ACT with writing scores in order to be admitted or considered. I am taking the June 11 ACT without writing because I wasn’t aware it was necessary for this particular college. My other 4 choices do not require it. So I was wondering if I should just apply to my other choices and then take the September 2016 ACT with writing and pray to God that it’s good enough for that college that requires it and send in my application before the fall deadline—December 8th. I’m just wondering if the latter applications are looked at differently depending on how many people sent their applications in around August 1st and got admitted. You know, I’m simply wondering if waiting a little later until the September scores come in will hurt or effect my chances. Of course there are people who wait past August 1st and still get into great universities, however, i don’t consider myself much of a stand out and was planning on being in that early group of applications for all my colleges that I hope to get into.
No, submitting your application on August 1st will not increase your chances of admission unless the school has rolling admissions. Some schools also require you submit early to be considered for merit aid, but typically those deadlines are in November.
Also, you can submit each college application separately; they don’t have to be all at once. You can submit your applications for the 4 schools that don’t require the ACT with writing and then submit the application for the last school after your scores come back.
thank you so much. I guess I’m just tricking myself into believing I am running out of time, when in reality there’s plenty of time to take the writing and apply. thanks!!
but at the same time, I’ve made it to where getting a good act score is vital in just one try.
What is the school? What are their deadlines? Are they rolling admission or not?
Texas A&M. For fall 2017 it says the application opens aug. 1st, and closes Dec.1 (I guess I was wrong when i said the 8th.) And I don’t know how to find out if they are rolling admission.
But I guess that time frame means they are. This is all confusing and new to me.
It is better to make sure you have the best scores you can and a good essay than trying to get it in by Aug 1
If you’re applying Reg Decision to schools with EA or ED, your app submitted in August will remain sitting there until January. EA and ED reads take precedence.
