is the engineering department generally harder to get in than arts and science dept?

schools i'm apply for that are:

Lehigh
NYU
Boston U
Boston College
Rochester
Case Western

thanks for any input!

I wouldn't say generally...I would say almost all the time.

You do know that NYU and Boston College don't offer engineering, right?

Harder if you're a boy, easier if you're a girl.

it depends school to school....top engineering schools (berkley, UMich, VT, UT-Austin, GaTech, Northwestern, ect) its going to be harder...smaller schools, with smaller engineering programs, might actually have a higher acceptance rate for engineering than A&S

however, GENERALLY, most engineering-applicants have higher GPAs and SATs (atleast math) scores...while this is NOT ALWAYS true, overall, its a proven statistic

Well, That the acceptance rate is generally higher is not true. Columbia College for example has a higher admission rate for Engineering. They say so on their website

<a href="http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/applications/stats.php%5B/url%5D">http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/applications/stats.php</a></p>

There it was almost twice the rate so check out numbers first.

What do you guys know about the Princeton Engineering program? Will my chances increase if I send in a theoretical paper covering engineering?
