Is the idea too common ?

Hello everyone! I really have no idea for my common app essay except for the background (1st topic), i thought of writing about how growing up in the middle east, where women are disregarded and little attention is given to their education, made me wish to have a good education and make a change in my country. But is it too common ? or inappropriate ?

In some ways, yes!
But that’s being said, I always believe that there is no bad topic, just bad writer. You can always transform a somewhat clinche idea into an out-of-the-universe masterpiece.

I agree withPhongtheha. It all depends how you write it. It can be a fantastic essay if you speak from the heart and show how your background shaped you into the person you are today.

It’s a good, and relevant topic. But the most important part is how you treat it - the execution. You can’t discuss the issue generally, it really has to focus on your own experience.

@Phongtheha‌ @desie1 @MYOS1634‌ i will try to make it very personal, do you think that i can talk about someone who inspires me?

@Rolay19‌ That sounds even more cliché lol. You can stick to the first idea.

@Phongtheha‌ i was actually thinking of talking about it in the same essay, as something that changed my ideas and conception, but i think i will forget about it, thank you!

You can talk about that person’s influence on you, but the adcoms’ goal is NOT to get to know the other person and her achievements, but you and your achievements. So if talking about the person will help you do that, great, but if 2/3 of your essay or more deal with the other person, no, bad idea :)

@MYOS1634‌ I’ll make sure not to talk too much about that person, thank you for the advice!
