is the initial offer letter the final say in how much aid you'll get?

this is a question to people who are currently attending RU and have already gone through the enrollment process.

is the initial offer letter really all you're going to be offered in terms of financial aid for RU, or will this amount or what they offer you be drastically different when they mail you your award status in May? i am in dire need of financial assistance and i think i definitely demonstrate financial need - my FAFSA EFC is only 4k/year. i was EXTREMELY shocked to see that Rutgers had only offered me a total of 5,500/year in terms of financial assistance, and they weren't even grants! they only offerend me 3k in student work/study program and 2.5k in LOANS. how can they ignore such a grave demonstrated financial need? my mom is the only one who works in my family because my dad is a lazy son of a b*tch, and she doesn't want to have any obligation to into pay back a lump sum with interest after i graduate. she also refuses to let me work in college because she wants me to focus on my work, so i have no idea how this is going to work for me. i just heard that Rutgers was very generous in tending to people who need financial aid with grants and i was pretty much appalled to see how they practically ignored my financial situation when i opened my initial offer letter.

i hope someone has the answer to my question
