Is the interview worth it?

Hey guys, I'm a senior and applying to USC, my dream school! Anyways, I'm from the East Coast and all of the off-campus interviews that are near me are filled. I wanted to do an interview because USC is my number one school and it's somewhat of a reach for me, so I thought that maybe an interview would prove how serious I am about attending.
Still, I've heard that interviews aren't really that important in the admissions process, and that they're only set up to keep the alumni feeling like they're still a part of the school. Since my interview will have to be across the country, I really want to make sure it'll at least sort of make a difference in my application.
Any opinions?
Thanks!!

interviews allow you to add a face and personality to your application that would otherwise be just one typical app of the thousands that USC receives. so yes, i think that an interview is a valuable opportunity to help your chances of getting in

if you do decide to travel to USC to do the interview, you might as well make the most of it and take a tour/explore the campus

If you are already planning to visit USC to find out more about the school and if it would be a good fit for you, it would be a good idea to also schedule an interview. If the interview is the only reason for the visit, it does not make sense to make a trip across the United States for a non-evaluative interview.

As mentioned in this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/992196-2011-admission-interview-sign-ups-available.html?highlight=interview+sign+ups</a> , off-campus interviews are usually full by late September. Anyone still hoping to schedule one should check immediately to see if there are any spots left.

Good luck!

to what program are you applying? For BA Theatre, they either require or highly recommend an interview, and I just did mine over the phone. I have no idea what role it played in my admissions process, but I definitely thought it went very well, so I doubt it hurt. I really enjoyed my interview, fwiw. I’d try contacting the specific school to which you are applying and asking them for a phone interview if that interests you.

I am a current fresh at USC and did not have a face to face interview at my out of state school. What I wanted to share…I attended Explore USC in April, after being accepted to USC. At lunch, I met one of the Admission Couns for my geographical area. She expressed how she had wanted to come to my school, but could not get a date that worked. During our conversation, a name of another admitted USC fresh student came up that I knew, from my home state. Seems this couns met this student at their high school and could recall so many details about this person. I was surprised…great details, great recall…impactful interview. So, for whatever it’s worth…

Is there a way your school couns can get you squeezed in? Good Luck
