Is the jump from Pre-Calc to BC to large?

Everyone says Im going to die because of BC in senior year because I didnt take AB. What do others think? Is there a book I can buy to supplement it so I can perform better?

I don’t know how much they teach you in your precalc class, but here it’s pretty normal to go from precalc -> BC. I’m sure you’ll do fine if you prepare a bit in the summer.

You review AB for the first quarter~half of BC [depending on your school & textbook].

At my school (and at most I’ve heard of) you choose either AB or BC. Nobody takes AB first. AB is supposed to be the first half of the material covered in BC, then you continue learning more stuff.

If these kids are from your school, this difference may be because your school does things differently. Maybe the BC course goes through the AB material really quickly because it assumes the students have already taken AB.

Talk to your AP Calc teacher and see what he/she says. They will best know how the material works at your school.

it’s not uncommon to go straight to BC, but it’s a very fast paced class compared to AB

It’s not a large jump. I made it.

The pace is to that of Fruit Ninja…after a minute. Fruit flying everywhere and bombs all up in your mojo.

Same at son’s school… either AB or BC, no one takes AB before BC. He went straight to BC and it’s been fine.

My D is in AB (all that is offered at her school), but the calc teacher is running a session during one lunch hour per week for kids in AB who want to take the BC test. Just teaching them the extra stuff they need to know.

Best bet, though, is to talk to the teacher before deciding for sure.

Pretty much everyone in our schools accelerated math program goes from precalc to BC… Ab certainly isn’t necessary

Precalc to BC is not that bad of a transition. Yes it is a transition, but if you are good at math and are willing to study, you should be fine. Im doing just fine and I did the same thing.

I took pre-calc as a sophomore and BC as a junior. It was not a huge transition because math is a strength of mine, but it was challenging. I had to work hard. It all paid off in the end. I got a 4 on the exam so in some colleges, you get double the credits than you would if you take AB. Good luck!

It was a step down for me. My precalc class was ridiculously hard so BC is actually a break for me.
