Is The Math I a bad choice?

Hi,
So i started studying for Math IIC and realized that i hadnt learned most of the material even though im in an advanced pre-calc course. I talked to my College counselor and my mth teacher and they seem to think i should take Math I. Is that going to be bad on my applications? even htough i dont plan on studying anything really math based?

get an 800. it should be no prob for you if you review a bit. and even if you don't its fine, it doesnt look bad...personally i believe that it will look bad only if you score below 700

any idea howm any you have to get wrong to get below a 700?

no clue but im also very intrested in this topic because im in AP AB calc and since i forgot a lot of pre-calc and it was the day after the APUSH exam i didnt want to over stress myself and take math II, i got a 730 on math I but i'm disopointed cause i did better on SAT I math. im thinking of taking math II this fall cause i dont think taking math I then was the best choice

hmm I dont know. According to the courses i have taken is hould take Math IIC also but i know im not prepared to. So getting below a 700...how many wrong answers is that usually?

Math I has a worse curve than math II and thus you can fall below 700 by missing fewer questions than what is needed to do so for math II. How many wrong you can get away with depends on particular test and it varies.

If the college requires SAT II's and accepts math I then it is not a disadvantage to have I rather than II. However, the UC's do not accept math I, some colleges, like Stanford, "recommend" math II, and some that accept I recommend II for their engineering programs.

Eh? Most of the hard stuff on IIC was covered by my pre-calc class, except limits, which are ridiculously easy anyhow.

I'll get back to you once I take the Math 2 tmrw... been vacillating between those two, actually.

I dunno. I was going to take math II and i met with my adv. pre-calc teacher and looked at the practice book and realized that we never learned most of what was on it. It seems ridiculous but i guess our course just doesnt cover the material. So im stuck taking math I. I test on sundays so i'll see tomorrow how it goes.

i got a 500 on the math IC

i just took it and im scared as hell to get my scores back. it was 10 times harder than any practice book i have ever seen. I am really really unhappy at the moment. :(

Pretty much the exact situation as me...I'm also in a pre-calc class where we haven't covered a decent chunk of the math iic material. I took the math ic yesterday and also found it hard. I had a feeling I wasn't going to do too well and planned to retake that in the fall anyways. :(

Don't take Math IC. Colleges don't count this. Take 2c.

Do you have any actual evidence to support that belief? Or are you just spouting fecal matter?

most good schools want 2c

i didn't find math 1c hard but when i started to review for math2c it was hard because alot of the material we didn't cover in pre cal

Not all good schools want 2c. It has more to do with what you can individually score higher in, as well as what you want to pursue in college. If you're focused on humanities, colleges are most likely going to look for high lit or history scores over a math.

From what I see with my own friends, some really smart kids took the 1c because of time issues. Sure, the 2c has an easier curve, but if you can't answer enough questions correctly in the alotted time anyways to score a 700+, it makes no difference.

ok but what if i am sure i will bomb 2c? I mean why should i set myself up to be slaughtered? Im so frustrated!!!
oh and im totally not interested in any math related fields in college. Im looking at languages and IR probably.

From above: "most good schools want 2c"

Incorrect. Vast majority of colleges don't want any SAT IIs. Many of your high ranks that require II's accept either the IC or IIC and don't care at all which one you submit. UC's take only the Math II if you submit a math (but they don't even care if you submit a math; they just want two II's), Some recommend the Math IIC and some want it for their engineering programs.

But if you take any SATII's and want to submit them aren't you required to submit all scores?
