Well im a sophomore in high school and the people at my school are so immature its not even funny. For example today my teacher put on a movie (For a project) and she turned off the light and then about half of the class started screaming. Now im for having fun but to scream at the top of your lungs when the lights get turned off isn't cool.

There isn’t much screaming when the lights are off in a classroom…

But I wouldn’t say that college kids are more mature…just immature in a different way.

They say the brain isn’t fully developed until around age 25, so… :p.

^^^^^^^
Yes it’s a different kind of immaturity. Everyone’s pretty respectful during class. Outside of class…

Maybe the kids in your class are just afraid of the dark.

Did you ever see that old Nickelodeon show?
Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story…

^…“attack of the screaming 10th graders”
throws sand into the fire pit.

god, i hope so…lol.

Yes. Definitely.

Yes. If you go to the schools that house the stupids like my current school then maybe not. They have yet to get out of their immature stages, unfortunately.

To be honest, I found that (in my few internship) older adults in the workplace seem to be more immature.

There’s constant gossiping, backstabbing, throwing other colleagues under the bus that I’ve noticed. Luckily, since I’m just the intern, nobody is doing any of the above to me since…I’m not that important.
But from simple observation, I’ve noticed a lot of it. It’s kind of disturbing actually. I wasn’t expecting that at all.

Maybe it’s just where I keep internships at or something, or maybe I just went in really naive.

ETA: But to actually address your question, in general comparison of HS to college – I’d say they’re more mature. I think it has more to do with a shift of focus.

^^ Dude Purdue is a really good school… the kids there are hardly stupid.

^ I’m talking about JWU. Johnson & Wales University.

^ Ah. My bad.

I sure hope so. My band teacher is in Ohio for a week and he left 3 seniors in charge of our class. One trombone player would not shut up! He made smart comments about everything that each senior said…I’m friends with this guy but he was being simply idiotic. I’m hoping I don’t have to tolerate behavior like this in college.

Erm… if you’re bothered by people being smart alecks, I’m afraid that’s not going to change much in college. Actually, it’s probably worse in college.

You haven’t seen my class yet. Yikes! shudders

I don’t know how it is at other schools, but I went to high school in orange county, california. Many of my peers were wealthy, flashy, self-absorbed and immature. And dumb. Because when you have money, you don’t have to work or learn anything.

Since I’ve come to Carnegie Mellon, I’ve found that even the ‘dumbest’ people are still here for a reason-- they’re artistically gifted or they play ‘dumb’ but are really very intelligent. I find I can get along with anyone. People are super practical and down to earth and generally hilarious. I love college much more than I ever liked high school. :)

I had to read Tom Sawyer again for a children’s lit class; it’s funny how Mark Twain draws parallels between children’s behavior and adults’ behavior. And it’s so true!!! You really thought people grow up? Since adults have access to more opportunities, they can be immature on a larger scale :p.

Take the people in your high school class. Now subtract those who definitely wouldn’t have made the cut at your college, but perhaps leave in a handful that we’ll call “legacies.” You now have a somewhat more mature collection of people. Now add copious amounts of alcohol with nobody to tell them to take it easy, and you have a bunch of generally smart people that frequently act like total jerks.
