Is the number of classes (or units) extremely important?

I still can't decide whether or not to take 4 classes. I will be going to UCLA on a 10 week quarter system. If I plan on transferring to schools like dartmouth or brown, does having 3 classes and a seminar (15 units) look too light? I would take 4 classes, but it just looks way to hectic..

depends on how many credit you already hold. if you mean you have 15 credits then i suggest take four classes. however, if the three classes yourintrested in cumulate 15 credits then thats not so bad. please reiterate your question with how many credit you old already, and how many classes you are intrested in taking.

Also, it'll help if you are trying to transfer for your junior year. Naturally, you'll have more units whether or not how many classes you took per quarter.

I will be a first year, so as of now, I don't have any credits. I have registered for classes and this is what I have far:

English Composition 3 (5 units)
German 1 (4 units)
German 50B (5 units)
Fiat Lux Seminar (1 unit)

I want to take philosophy 21 on top of that, but I am afraid that it might be too much to handle during my first quarter. Now my question is... will the schedule above look too light to adcoms for the first quarter? I plan on upping my load 2nd quarter. Sorry for the confusion.

i suggest one more class, but you think you might be bogged down i wouldnt suggest it. your selection isnt bad. are you majoring in german? and what is the difference between attend fall and a 10 week system?

I dont really understand your question. UCLA has a modified quarter system. There are three ten week quarters during the year. So technically, its a trimester system.

Also, I want some combination of economics/philosophy/german, so my major is still undecided.

Anymore opinions on the schedule? 3 or 4? im still torn.. grr.

bump......

Whats the average unit course load?

Most people take 3 classes. The average unit count is 15, while 12 is the minimum for a full time student.

So.. im back to this question again.. 3 or 4? 13 units or 18 units?

Econ 1 (microecon)
German 2
Phil 22W (intro to ethical theory, writing intensive)
English 95B (intro to drama)

The class that I am debating dropping/keeping is english 95B.

Thanks for any input.

well its your first quarter. go with 13 then move up from there. there's always summer to make up that course that you missed. A horrible gpa with a high unit load is worst than a normal unit load with a high gpa.
