I was wondering if the essay is a crucial component of the application review process? I mean, can an applicant be denied decision if they feel that he/she has not got a good score?

*ACT optional essay
Admissions told us it is optional to even take the ACT writing portion and my D was admitted without it no problems.
^^my D was told the same last year. My son will be applying next fall and he’s definitely NOT sitting the essay component of the SAT or ACT.
