I got accepted to USC :D and in the booklet they gave me, it said that I was selected among 2,600 talented students from a batch of 35,000. That means they had a 7% acceptance rate. Is this true??? I find it very hard to believe this.

No, it’s acceptance rate is around 20%. The booklet was referring to the 2,600 students expected to enroll.

Feathers,
All universities accept more than they expect to enroll. The target class is 2600. I fully expect more to accept and the class will end up larger…just as it did last year. The acceptance rate, as stated in a news article, was 22%. Also, according to the NYTimes, the number of applicants was 38,000.

No, the acceptance rate was not 7% for the entire university. For certain majors in Cinematic Arts, Viterbi games, Thornton School of Music, Marshall Bus. & Cin. Arts Dual Major and School of Theatre the acceptance rate was in the single digits.

USC is a Tier I university. It is considered highly selective. It has just been named by Princeton Review as one of the top ten “Dream Schools”. Last year it was fourth in the nation for number of National Merit Scholars enrolled.

Congratulations. You were selected from a huge group of candidates to be admitted. Be happy.

Feathers,
Final admit rates are not available for 2011 at this point. Here is a list of universities around the nation printed in the NYTimes. These are the final admit rates for 2010. They will change slightly for 2011, but you can see there is a range.
