what the tittle says, and also, what major would benefit me the most? microbiology or biomedical sciences, which would give more opportunities to enter the program
thanks

I think a way to evaluate the Phd program include how helpful and productive the research mentors are. You could look up their publications, but you should be focusing on undergraduate research first to see what you’re interested in.

You actually could major in Microbiology and do research in the VIBS department.

I’d say Biomedical Sciences might help with preparing for medical school because you would be able to take Histology and Gross Anatomy. Also, more good/competitive students will be majoring in it (a plus or minus depending on you).

But your major shouldn’t be a factor in your medical school application.
Focus more on 1) figuring out what you really want, 2) research, 3) MCAT, 4) EC’s that can easily make you interesting and sincere during the interviews, 5) GPA
