Is the Pre-med program cutthroat

Hello everyone, I am applying to Holy Cross' premed program, which is what I believe to be one of the programs in the nation (80-90% medical acceptance rate!!!). However, I am wondering if the premed classes (Biology and Chem..ect) are competitive to the point where a student will study only for the sake of a high GPA that is often observed in bigger universities/colleges. AKA the "gunner"- "A gunner will stop at nothing to get to the top and won't hesitate to take out others along the way. You'll hear horror stories of people tearing pages out of books, giving people the wrong notes or notes with tons of errors, and refusing to help classmates with anything academic."

I ask this mainly because I enjoy working/studying in an atmosphere where people are inclined to assist others to succeed, than to step over their shoulders for their own gains. Much appreciated for your time reading and answers.

Offtopic: How would you compare the pre-med program of Holy Cross to programs at universities such as Colgate and Tuft?

Is it cutthroat like kids are doing whatever it takes to make either students look bad to help themselves benefit…no, not at all. Is it competitive and weed students out…definitely. I’m not going to lie, yes premed at holy cross is an amazing program and highly recognized by med schools…but it is a hard one that required a great amount of studying and devotion. You will spend a lot of time in the library working out problems sets and studying and will also be visiting your professor during office hours. However, its doable, so don’t feel intimidated, just know it is quite a lot of work ( as it would be for any school with a decent premed program i can imagine). Hope I answered your question.

And to answers your question about interaction with other students, Most kids help each other out and form study groups and what not…so People aren’t really out to get you, the classes will weed out who is in and who is not.
